We bring you last week’s top performances from Belgians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.
   #1. This week’s number one is an international power forward Hans Vanwijn (208-95, agency: Network Sports International, currently plays in France). He led JDA Dijon to a victory over the 16th-ranked Chalons-Reims (7-14) 90-80 in the French Jeep ELITE ProA in Tuesday night’s game.
Vanwijn was MVP of the game. He scored 20 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 22 minutes on the court.
JDA Dijon Bourgogne (18-4) is placed first in the Jeep ELITE ProA.
It was his team’s sixth consecutive victory in a row.
They will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And that game will be critical.
Vanwijn has relatively good stats this year: 10.7ppg, 5.2rpg, 1.4apg, 2FGP: 64.0%(55-86), 3FGP: 51.0%(25-49) and FT: 57.6% in 19 games he played so far.
He is currently a member of the Belgian senior national team.
   #2. Second place goes to an experienced former international point guard Sam Van-Rossom (188-86, currently plays in Spain). Van-Rossom contributed to a Valencia Basket‘s victory against the closely-ranked Movil Estudiantes (18-12) 100-89 in the Spanish Liga Endesa last Sunday.
He scored 18 points.
It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Valencia Basket (29-1) is placed second in the Liga Endesa.
It was his team’s 17th consecutive victory in a row.
There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial.
It’s Van-Rossom’s eighth season with the team.
This year Van-Rossom averages: 8.0ppg, 1.4rpg, 3.6apg, 2FGP: 56.9%(37-65), 3FGP: 47.3%(44-93) and FT: 92.1%(35-38).
He played for the Belgian national team in 2018.

   #3. The Belgian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international power forward Maxime De Zeeuw (206-87, currently plays in Israel). De Zeeuw helped Hapoel Holon win their game against the leader Bnei Hasharon 90-85 in the Israeli Winner League on Sunday night.
He scored 13 points, had 7 rebounds and dished 5 assists in 29 minutes.
Hapoel Holonis placed fourth in Winners Stage group.
This year De Zeeuw has relatively solid stats: 11.6ppg, 5.1rpg, 2.3apg, 2FGP: 55.7%(34-61), 3FGP: 42.9% and FT: 67.6% in 14 games.
Ex-Verviers-Pepinster player is also a member of the Belgian senior national team.
   #4. Swingman Elias Lasisi (191-92, currently plays in Germany) was the major contributor in a Crailsheim Merlins‘ victory against the seventh-ranked Hamburg Towers (20-12) 85-79 in the German BBL in Sunday night’s game.
He scored 16 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and dished 5 assists.
HAKRO Merlins Crailsheimis placed third in the BBL.
It’s Lasisi’s first season with the team.
Lasisi has reliable stats this year: 11.0ppg, 2.7rpg and 1.5apg.
He used to play for the Belgian national team
back in 2018.
   #5. International point guard Emmanuel Lecomte (180-95, college: Baylor, currently plays in Lithuania) was the main contributor in a Prienai CBet‘s victory against the closely-ranked P.Zvaigzdes (12-22) 85-79 in the Lithuanian LKL on Sunday night.
Lecomte was the best player in that game. He scored 27 points (!!!) and added 5 assists; not bad, considering it’s only Lecomte’s third season in pro basketball. Prienai CBet (14-20) is placed fifth in the LKL.
There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be important.
Lecomte’s stats this season are: 14.5ppg, 2.1rpg and 4.6apg.
He plays currently for the Belgian national team.

   #6. Guard Retin Obasohan (191-93, college: Alabama, currently plays in Czech Republic) helped Nymburk win their game against the second-ranked Usti n/Labem (15-17) crushing them 93-69 in the Czech Republic NBL in Thursday night’s game.
Obasohan scored 12 points, had 6 rebounds and made 2 blocks in 21 minutes.
It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in group Places 1-6. ERA Basketball Nymburk (31-1) is placed first.
It was his team’s tenth consecutive victory in a row.
Obasohan’s stats this year are: 13.5ppg, 3.8rpg, 4.3apg and 2.1spg in 19 games.
He is an international player who is currently on the senior Belgian National Team roster.

   #7. Former international small forward Matt Lojeski (198-85, agency: Pensack Sports, college: Hawaii, currently plays in Greece). Lojeski could not help AEK (15-8) to beat Panathinaikos (11-1).
He recorded 9 points and grabbed 4 rebounds.
But AEK was defeated 104-95 in a derby game by the leading Panathinaikos.
It was AEK’s fourth consecutive loss in a row.
Lojeski’s team will play only one more game in the Regular Season.
Lojeski’s overall stats this season are: 9.8ppg, 3.0rpg and 1.3apg.
He is a naturalized American.
Lojeski used to play for the Belgian national team
four years ago.
He played also for Okapi Aalstar in Belgian league.

   #8. Center Ismael Bako (208-95, currently plays in France) was not able to help ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (16-3) in their last game. Despite Bako’s good performance ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket was edged 98-95 on the road by the lower-ranked (#3) SIG Strasbourg.
He scored 10 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 24 minutes.
Bako’s team will play only one more game in the Regular Season.
This year Bako’s overall stats are: 6.5ppg and 3.6rpg in 17 games.
He plays currently for the Belgian national team.

   #9. International power forward Andy Van Vliet (213-95, college: William & Mary, currently plays in Lithuania) was not able to secure a victory for Siauliai (12-21) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Van Vliet’s good performance Siauliai was badly defeated 105-86 at home by the leading Zalgiris.
He recorded a double-double by scoring 12 points and getting the same number of rebounds. Van Vliet also added 4 assists.
There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season.
Van Vliet averaged so far 11.0ppg, 5.6rpg and 2.1apg.
He is also in the roster of the Belgian national team.

   #10. Center Amaury Gorgemans (212-92, currently plays in France) helped Denain Voltaire edge the league outsider Poitiers (4-16) 64-62 in the French ProB (second division) on Tuesday night.
He scored 9 points and grabbed 4 rebounds.
Denain ASC Voltaire (13-9) is placed seventh in the ProB.
It was his team’s third consecutive victory in a row.
Gorgemans’ total stats this season are: 5.5ppg and 4.8rpg.
He is a former international player as three years ago he still played for the Belgian senior national team.

   #11. Former U20 international center Xavier-Robert Francois (204-94, currently plays in Luxembourg) helped Residence win their game against the league outsider Telstar crushing them 103-62 in the Luxembourg Total League last Sunday.
He scored 13 points and grabbed 7 rebounds.
Francois’ total stats this season are: 9.6ppg, 6.9rpg and 1.4apg.
He used to play for the Belgian U20 national team
seven years ago.

   #12. International guard Quentin Serron (190-90, currently plays in Spain) couldn’t help Bilbao in their game against Valencia Basket in the Spanish Liga Endesa. Serron cannot count Sunday’s game as one of the best ones.
He scored only 2 points in 16 minutes.
His team lost 90-99.
This year Serron’s total stats are: 4.5ppg and 1.6rpg in 19 games.
He is also in the roster of the Belgian national team.

   #13. Former U20 international forward Thomas De Thaey (203-91, agency: Promo Sport ID, college: NC State, currently plays in Portugal) couldn’t help one of league’s weakest teams Oliveirense in their game against Benfica in the Portuguese LPB. He cannot count Saturday’s game as one of the best ones.
De Thaey recorded only 3 points in 16 minutes.
His team lost 88-97.
De Thaey has averaged so far 9.4ppg, 5.3rpg and 1.3apg in 10 games.
He used to play for the Belgian U20 national team
ten years ago.

   #14. Former U20 international power forward Thomas Van Ounsem (205-99, currently plays in France) couldn’t help JSA Bordeaux in their game against Lourdes-Tarbes in the French NM1 (third division).
Van Ounsem scored 8 points.
His team was defeated 81-69.
Van Ounsem averaged so far 10.7ppg, 3.9rpg and 1.5apg.
He used to play for the Belgian U20 national team
back in 2019.

   #15. Former U20 international center Justin Kohajda (204-96, currently plays in Spain) couldn’t help Valladolid in their game against Castello in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division). Kohajda cannot count Sunday’s game as one of the best ones.
He scored only one point in 10 minutes.
His team lost 83-88.
Kohajda has averaged so far 3.8ppg and 2.9rpg in 19 games.
He used to play for the Belgian U20 national team
five years ago.

The list of other players, who all have Belgian passport but never been selected to any of Belgian national teams:

   #1. David Kralj (191-G-99, college: Coastal, currently plays in Slovenia) led Sencur Gorenjska gradbena druzba Kranj to a victory over the sixth-ranked Terme Olimia (3-7) 84-71 in the Slovenian Liga Nova KBM last Saturday.
Kralj was the best player in that game. He scored 27 points (!!!) and grabbed 4 rebounds in 36 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it’s only Kralj’s second season in pro basketball. Sencur Gorenjska gradbena druzba Kranj (3-7) is placed fifth in Places 1-6 group.
It was Sencur Gorenjska gradbena druzba Kranj’s first victory after five consecutive loses.
There are only two games left until the end of the Second Stage. So now every game will be critical.
Kralj’s stats this year are: 12.8ppg, 3.2rpg, 1.3apg and 1.2spg in 24 games he played so far.
He has a dual citizenship: Slovenian and Belgian.
Despite Kralj’s Belgian passport, he previously played for the Slovenian U20 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Belgian team.

   #2. Francis Torreborre (184-PG-93, currently plays in Czech Republic) contributed to Kolin‘s victory against the tenth-ranked Pardubice (0-3) 103-95 in the Czech Republic NBL last Monday.
Torreborre scored 6 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished 6 assists in 21 minutes.
BK Geosan Kolin (20-12) is placed third in Places 1-6 group.
This year Torreborre’s total stats are: 4.7ppg, 1.7rpg and 3.1apg in seven games.

   #3. Benjamin Janssens (198-F-98, agency: Promo Sport ID, currently plays in Spain) was the main contributor in Avila‘s victory against the seventh-ranked Pas Pielagos (8-8) 80-63 in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) in Saturday night’s game.
Janssens was the top player that evening. He scored 17 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 22 minutes.
Avila Autentica El Bulevar (9-9) is placed fifth in Group A-B.
The Regular Season already ended.
This year Janssens’ total stats are: 9.3ppg, 7.3rpg, 2.1apg and 1.4spg in 14 games.

   #4. Stan Leemans (205-C-92, agency: Promotex, currently plays in Switzerland) could not help Swiss Central (4-1) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Leemans’ very good performance Swiss Central was defeated 80-69 on the road by the leading Wallabies.
He was the second best scorer with 15 points. Leemans also added 6 rebounds, passed 3 assists and added 2 blocks.
There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season.
Leemans has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 17.0ppg, 11.0rpg and 1.5apg.
Leemans is another player who holds two passports: Belgian and Swiss.

   #5. Experienced Robbe Janssens (190-F-0, also represented by Promo Sport ID, currently plays in Spain) was not able to help Zamorano in their game against Prat (19-7) in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division). Janssens cannot count Sunday’s game as one of the best ones.
He scored only one point in 4 minutes on the court.
The eighth-placed Zamorano (12-14) was badly defeated 89-69 on the opponent’s court by the second-ranked Prat in the West group.
This year Janssens averages only 0.7ppg in seven games.

   #6. Mirza Skrelja (201-F, currently plays in Kosovo) was not able to secure a victory for Istogu in their game against Trepca/AS in the Kosovan Liga e pare.
He recorded 5 points and grabbed 5 rebounds.
His team was crushed by 29 points 99-70.
This season Skrelja averages only 0.7ppg.
