We bring you last week’s top performances from Belgians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.
   #1. This week’s number one is an international power forward Hans Vanwijn (208-95, agency: Network Sports International, currently plays in France). He was the major contributor in a JDA Dijon‘s victory against the eighth-ranked Limoges CSP Elite (9-9) crushing them 103-69 in the French Jeep ELITE ProA in Tuesday night’s game.
Vanwijn scored 17 points and added 3 passes in 24 minutes on the court.
JDA Dijon Bourgogne (15-4) is placed first in the Jeep ELITE ProA.
It was his team’s third consecutive victory in a row.
There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical.
It’s Vanwijn’s first season with the team.
He has relatively good stats this year: 10.7ppg, 5.2rpg, 1.4apg, 2FGP: 64.9%(48-74), 3FGP: 46.3%(19-41) and FT: 58.1% in 16 games he played so far.
Vanwijn is currently a member of the Belgian senior national team.
   #2. Second place goes to an international power forward Andy Van Vliet (213-95, college: William & Mary, currently plays in Lithuania). He led Siauliai to a victory against the third-ranked Lietkabelis (20-10) 97-87 in the Lithuanian LKL last Thursday.
Van Vliet recorded 18 points and grabbed 7 rebounds; quite an impressive performance considering it’s only his third season in pro basketball. BC Siauliai (10-19) is placed seventh in the LKL.
It was his team’s fourth consecutive victory in a row.
This season Van Vliet has relatively solid stats: 11.1ppg, 5.3rpg, 2.1apg, 2FGP: 59.5%(91-153), 3FGP: 39.8% and FT: 70.7%.
He is in the roster of the Belgian senior national team.
   #3. The Belgian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international point guard Emmanuel Lecomte (180-95, college: Baylor, currently plays in Lithuania). Lecomte could not help Prienai CBet (12-18) in their last game. Despite his very good performance Prienai CBet lost 79-87 on the road to the higher-ranked (#3) Lietkabelis.
Lecomte was the top scorer with 23 points. He also added 6 assists in 37 minutes; not bad, considering it’s only Lecomte’s third season in pro basketball. Lecomte has reliable stats this year: 14.8ppg, 1.9rpg, 5.3apg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 54.0%, 3FGP: 39.4% and FT: 83.3% in eight games.
He is also a member of the Belgian senior national team.
   #4. An experienced point guard Sam Van-Rossom (188-86, currently plays in Spain) managed to help Valencia Basket to win against the 14th-ranked Blusens Monbus (10-20) 97-82 in the Spanish Liga Endesa in Friday night’s game.
Van-Rossom recorded only 2 points and added 8 assists.
Valencia Basket (29-1) is placed second in the Liga Endesa.
It was his team’s 17th consecutive victory in a row.
Van-Rossom is one of the most experienced players in a team as it’s his eighth year in Valencia Basket’s roster.
His overall stats this season are: 7.5ppg, 1.5rpg and 3.9apg.
Van-Rossom used to play for the Belgian national team
back in 2018.
   #5. International center Ismael Bako (208-95, currently plays in France) contributed to an easy victory against the league outsider Boulazac Basket (2-14) crushing them 95-67 in the French Jeep ELITE ProA last Saturday.
He scored 7 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in only 11 minutes.
ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (15-3) is placed first in the Jeep ELITE ProA.
There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial.
This year Bako averages: 6.1ppg and 3.4rpg in 14 games.
He plays currently for the Belgian national team.

   #6. Swingman Elias Lasisi (191-92, currently plays in Germany) contributed to a Crailsheim Merlins‘ victory against the 13th-ranked Chemnitz (10-18) 85-73 in the German BBL on Wednesday night.
Lasisi recorded 5 points and grabbed 4 rebounds.
HAKRO Merlins Crailsheimis placed third in the BBL.
Lasisi averaged so far 11.1ppg, 2.7rpg and 1.4apg.
He is a former international player as he played for the Belgian senior team three years ago.

   #7. International guard Thomas Akyazili (190-97, college: Colorado, currently plays in Turkey) was not able to help Acibadem in their game against Besiktas (8-18) in the Turkish BSL.
He scored 6 points and grabbed 5 rebounds.
Acibadem was defeated 83-77 in a derby game by the much lower-ranked Besiktas (#12).
The Regular Season already ended.
Akyazili’s overall stats this season are: 3.4ppg and 1.5rpg.
He is also Belgian national team player.

   #8. Guard Quentin Serron (190-90, currently plays in Spain) was not able to secure a victory for Bilbao (7-22) in their game against Unicaja Malaga (14-15) in the Spanish Liga Endesa.
Serron recorded 7 points in only 13 minutes.
Bilbao lost 74-88 in Malaga to the much higher-ranked (#8) Unicaja.
This year Serron’s overall stats are: 4.6ppg, 1.6rpg and 1.1apg in 17 games.
He plays currently for the Belgian national team.

   #9. Former U20 international center Justin Kohajda (204-96, currently plays in Spain) helped Valladolid win their game against the fourth-ranked HLA Alicante (8-6) 85-70 in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) last Sunday.
He scored 8 points in 15 minutes.
Clinica Sur-Aspasia RVB Valladolid (4-10) is placed eighth in Places 1-10 group.
There are only four games left until the end of the Second Stage. So now every game will be important.
This year Kohajda’s total stats are: 4.1ppg and 3.0rpg in 17 games.
He used to play for the Belgian U20 national team
five years ago.

   #10. Point guard Sigfredo Casero-Ortiz (185-97, currently plays in Spain) couldn’t help Moron (7-18) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Casero-Ortiz’s very good performance the 13th-placed Moron (7-18) was defeated 81-74 at home by the higher-ranked Zamorano (#8) in the West group.
He was the top scorer with 19 points. Casero-Ortiz also added 5 passes.
The Regular Season already ended.
Casero-Ortiz averaged so far 14.9ppg, 2.5rpg and 2.8apg.
He is a former international player as two years ago he still played for the Belgian senior national team.

   #11. Former international point guard Ordane Kanda-Kanyinda (186-96, currently plays in Holland) couldn’t help Feyenoord in their game against Zwolle in the Dutch DBL.
Kanda-Kanyinda scored 6 points in only 8 minutes.
His team lost 77-87.
Kanda-Kanyinda has averaged so far 9.0ppg, 1.5rpg, 4.5apg and 1.5spg in 10 games.
He used to play for the Belgian national team
three years ago.

   #12. Former U20 international center Xavier-Robert Francois (204-94, currently plays in Luxembourg) couldn’t help Residence (13-3) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite Francois’ good performance the league leader Residence was crushed 101-63 on the opponent’s court by the lower-ranked Esch (#4).
He was the second best scorer with 13 points.
Francois has averaged so far 9.3ppg, 6.4rpg and 1.1apg.
He used to play for the Belgian U20 national team
back in 2014.

   #13. Former U16 international small forward Nicolas Hittelet (200-98, currently plays in Luxembourg) helped Contern win their game against the closely-ranked Heffingen crushing them 93-67 in the Luxembourg Total League on Saturday night.
He recorded only 2 points.
Hittelet has averaged so far 6.8ppg and 2.6rpg.
He used to play for the Belgian U16 national team
seven years ago.

The list of other players, who all have Belgian passport but never been selected to any of Belgian national teams:

   #1. Francis Torreborre (184-PG-93, currently plays in Czech Republic) led Kolin to an easy victory against the fifth-ranked Brno (16-16) crushing them 90-69 in the Czech Republic NBL in Wednesday night’s game.
Torreborre recorded 13 points (made all of his five free throws) in only a mere 12 minutes.
BK Geosan Kolin (20-11) is placed third in Places 1-6 group.
The Second Stage already ended.
This year Torreborre’s overall stats are: 6.7ppg, 2.0apg and 1.3spg in three games he played so far.

   #2. Experienced Cedric Dedecker (183-G-0, currently plays in Holland) led Leeuwarden to a victory against the sixth-ranked Almere (3-17) 86-76 in the Dutch DBL in Saturday night’s game.
Dedecker scored 13 points.
Aris Leeuwarden (4-16) is placed fifth in Places 7-12 group.
It was his team’s first victory after four consecutive loses.
They will play only one more game in the Second Stage. And that game will be critical.
Dedecker’s total stats this season are: 9.2ppg, 1.6rpg and 1.2apg.

   #3. Alhassan Barrie (196-F-95, college: Goshen, currently plays in Holland) could not help Hague (5-15) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Barrie’s good performance the fourth-placed Hague (5-15) was crushed 75-49 on the road by the second-ranked BAL Weert in the Places 7-12 group.
He was the second best scorer with 12 points.
Barrie’s team will play only one more game in the Second Stage.
Barrie has averaged so far 8.8ppg, 4.6rpg and 1.1spg.

   #4. Ruphin Kayembe (201-F/C-92, currently plays in France) contributed to a 2-point Denain Voltaire‘s victory against one of league’s weakest teams Olympique Antibes (5-13) 79-77 in the French ProB (second division) in Tuesday night’s game.
He recorded 7 points in 16 minutes.
Denain ASC Voltaire (10-8) is placed seventh in the ProB.
Kayembe’s stats this year are: 10.9ppg and 5.2rpg in 16 games.
He has a dual citizenship: DR Congolese and Belgian.

   #5. Benjamin Janssens (198-F-98, agency: Promo Sport ID, currently plays in Spain) was not able to help Avila in their game against Valladolid (4-10) in the Spanish EBA (fourth division).
Janssens recorded 7 points and had 4 steals in 28 minutes.
Avila (#7) lost 71-78 on the opponent’s court to the lower-ranked (#8) Valladolid in the Group A-B.
It was Avila’s first loss after three consecutive victories.
There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season.
Janssens has averaged so far 8.5ppg, 7.7rpg, 2.1apg and 1.5spg in 12 games.
